It’s that time when many of us begin to make resolutions for the new year. We tend to make resolutions out of habit without true commitment.
We all “want” to achieve our goals. But did you know that 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail within the first couple months?
They fail because we make resolutions without full commitment.
Health is Your Own to Create
Healthcare is failing. No longer can we trust our doctors to prescribe health; the medical system’s only focus is disease management.
It’s designed to perpetuate disease because “a pill for every ill” is the primary approach in conventional medicine.
When we take medications, we alter our physiology in ways that cannot be reversed. Long term, this can create side effects or other disease states.
The best healthcare is to live the solution everyday and take responsibility for optimizing your own health.
So as we think about New Year’s resolutions, let’s understand our tendencies in making resolutions.
Resolutions vs. Commitments
We make resolutions based off something we want. For example, you might want to lose weight, get fit, or eat healthier.
The word “want” by definition means to desire and wish for something.
Wanting is completely passive, easy, and does not require any action. This is where we fail ourselves with making resolutions.
We make resolutions based on what we want without truly committing to the goal.
Commitment on the other hand, by definition, means “a promise or firm decision to do something” and “following through a course of action with the promise to get there.”
Make a Commitment, Not a Resolution
So this year, I want to challenge you to avoid making resolutions from a place of wanting something. Rather, I want you to commit to the goal.
We believe in order to achieve your goals, the most important thing is your mindset. Most of us live on autopilot and do the same thing, day in and day out.
Our brains have evolved to avoid pain, seek pleasure, and do what’s easy.
