Can food be inflammatory? YES.

“Dietary patterns high in refined starches, sugar, and saturated and trans fatty acids, poor in natural antioxidants and fiber from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and poor in omega-3 fatty acids may cause an activation of the innate immune system, most likely by an excessive production of pro-inflammatory cytokines associated with a reduced production of anti-inflammatory cytokines.” Giugliano, D. et al., J Am Coll Cariol.  2006; 48 (4):677-685

The following foods can cause inflammation when consumed:

  1. Fast food consumption
  2. 6.5 % of adults eat at fast food restaurants
  3. Fast foods contributed more than one third of total calorie intake
  4. Lower levels of vitamin A, carotenoids, vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, fruits, and vegetables
  5. Increased intake of soft drinks
  6. Refined foods = Cytokines = inflammation= accelerated aging

A person whose basic emotional and physical tendencies are in balance, whose digestive power is balanced, whose bodily tissues, elimination functions and activities are in balance, and whose mind, senses and soul are filled with vitality, that person is said to be healthy.  Sushruta Samhita
