Interactive Metronome (IM) is now offered at Alkaline Wellness Center.

Interactive Metronome is an evidence-based assessment and training tool that measures neural timing & improves brain impulses within key brain networks for cognitive, communicative, sensory & motor performance.

How Interactive Metronome Works

As the client activates a trigger in time with a steady auditory beat, IM technology provides real-time auditory and visual feedback for millisecond timing.

Knowing whether he is hitting before, after, or exactly in sync with the beat to the millisecond allows the individual to make immediate, corrections to improve timing & rhythm over the course of training.

Peer reviewed studies repeatedly confirm the importance of timing & rhythm for human performance.

Why is Timing Important?

Timing is everything when processing information and translating it into action.

Timing is fundamental to everything that we do as humans, both complex and simple things.

Also, precise timing is a hallmark for exceptional athletic performance and orchestrating music.

It can even be the key to delivering a funny punch line when speaking.

Timing is responsible for a person being able to walk without falling or speak without stuttering.

It is required to focus, process language, keep our balance, walk without falling, play a sport, and read.

Timing is responsible for the synchronous communication of our brains’ network system that connects cognitive processes and physical movement.

Our ability to have accurate neural timing is one of the most critical factors in human performance.

Interactive Metronome improves the efficiency of a person’s internal brain clock and neural processing.

This results in not only effective, but efficient brain connectivity, communication, and synchronization through increased integrity of the brain’s communication system.

We all know that when we take in information, our brain has to “process” this information and either have an understanding or have a motor output.

Research suggests that IM training increases the efficacy of our complex brain network, most associated with intellectual functioning, working memory, controlled attention and executive functions.

What are the Benefits of Interactive Metronome?

One of the most important IM training outcomes (but not the only outcome) is improved focus via increased efficiency of the attentional control system (ACS).

The ACS maintains goal related information active in working memory in the presence of internal (mind wandering) and external distractions.

As a result, improvement in efficiency of executive functions and working memory leads to more efficient complex cognitive processing and learning.

Who Can Benefit?

According to IM research, improving neurotiming may result in better function in the following areas:

  • Attention
  • Processing Speed
