YogaUpdates on Our Growing Family

How is it March already? February went by so quickly, but it was a great month at Alkaline Wellness Center Yoga—and the best is yet to come!
NEW CLASS, NEW INSTRUCTORS
I’m excited to announce that we are expanding the Yoga Program for March. We have a new Yoga Basics class on Tuesdays at 9:30 am with Lynn Kelly. You may remember this sweet spirit. She subbed for my classes during the first week of February. Lynn specializes in gentle yoga and brings a wealth of experience to the team. I am honored that she will be with Alkaline Wellness Center Yoga Program on a regular basis! Be sure to add her class to your calendar to receive excellent guidance in some of yoga’s most foundational poses.
Don’t forget, Renee Smith, RYT-200hr, is now teaching Weekday Wind Down on Fridays at 7:15 pm. This is a terrific way to end your week and step into the weekend refreshed and rejuvenated.
Jyn Wynn, RYT-200hr, has joined the weekend class rotation. She will join Carissa Wetzstein and I in teaching classes every Saturday, All Levels Yoga at 9:15 am and Yoga Exploratory 11:00 am. (Yoga Exploratory is a fun opportunity for students to explore different themes and styles of yoga. We try to switch it up each weekend, so don’t miss a class!)
BENEFITS OF YOGA
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that meditation, an integral component of yoga, may be on par with antidepressants in treating depressive symptoms: in a 2014 study in the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience, researchers examined 15 participants with no prior meditation experience. Over the course of just four days of meditation training, participants expressed that they experienced “significantly less” anxiety. The results have encouraged a larger study. Meditation reduces anxiety by improving mood and enhancing cognitive control mechanisms. –Yoga Journal, March 2015.

As a new yoga program, it’s important that we get the word out! Our little family will grow and we can continue to offer more classes and more exciting opportunities to learn and develop as a yoga student.
