Quinoa and Black Bean Burgers


  • 1/2 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1 can 15.5 ounces black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil plus extra used for cooking


  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  • Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and use your hands or a fork to mash into a paste-like mixture
  • Divide the mixture into four equal sections, and form each section into a patty measuring 1/4-1/2 inch thick
  • In an oven safe saucepan over high heat, pour a 1/2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil and cook each patty for 1 minute on each side
  • Transfer the saucepan into the oven and bake for 15 minutes
  • Serve burgers on whole grain buns or use a lettuce wrap for a lower carb meal
